
Properly promoting your event will help make it a success. I have compiled this checklist of items for promoting your fundraising event as well as free resources you can take advantage of.
EVENT MARKETING CHECKLIST
Promotion Before the Event
- Mail “Save the Date” postcard
- Post your event on your site (if you don’t have this capability or event registration, call us).
- Email blast to your donors
- Write article or post ad in your newsletter
- Advertise in local websites and publications
- List your event on www.charityhappenings.org
- Mail printed invitation
- Create journal ad solicitation sheet
- Create sponsor packages
- Promotional video
- Social media:
- Create a Facebook event
- Promote on LinkedIn
- Tweet about it on Twitter
- Order promotional items / gift bags to hand out
- Create event agenda, brochure, journal and other print materials.
- Create posters and postcards for local distribution

Promotion After the Event
- Thank you notes to committee, vendors, sponsors, donors, etc.
- Post photos and videos on your website, Facebook, Flickr, etc.
- Send press releases to media about success of the event.
- Use social media to continue the dialogue with your donors – share photos, pose questions, conduct polls, etc.
- Promote your cause – explain what their donation does and what their participation means.

This is a great list. One thing that was missing was posting on some charity event calendars. The best charity event calendar is Charityhappenings.org http://www.charityhappenings.org. It’s the official master calendar of nonprofit events, benefits and galas.. You can also post photos from past events.
